Cheers: TDC Award for Fürst Löwenstein
The Type Directors Club of New York has given an »Award for Typographic Excellence« to the 2010 C.A.R.L. edition of the Fürst Löwenstein Vineyard, which was designed by Strichpunkt.
After taking over his father’s vineyard, hereditary prince Carl F. zu Löwenstein entrusted Strichpunkt with the task of design and marketing for his top wines from Franconia and the Rhine district. Strichpunkt developed a name concept that was as effective as it was simple: because the first letters C, A, R and L of the four top wines Coronilla, Asphodill, Reserve Hendelberg and Sophie Löwenstein produce the first name of the owner. The historic family crest and the respective letters, applied directly onto the bottles in silk screen print, not only impressed the wine gourmets but also met the taste of the TDC’s strict jury, who awarded Strichpunkt what is now the 21st »Typo-Oscar«.
The C.A.R.L. edition is not the end of the story, however. In the run-up to the princely vineyard’s 400th anniversary, hereditary prince zu Löwenstein has given Strichpunkt the task of comprehensively re-launching the entire brand image. We look forward to seeing what happens next in this relationship between top-class wine and design.
