At Strichpunkt, we want to move from being part of the problem to being part of the solution. In terms of the climate, this means that we want to continuously emit less CO2 and help take more greenhouse gas out of the atmosphere than we put into it. To this end, we are now working with our new partner Planted to identify and reduce all business-related CO2 emissions. What remains is overcompensated by renewable energy projects, making us net climate-positive. Any questions? Here are the most important answers:
What exactly are we doing?
Together with our partner Planted, we are removing more CO2 from the atmosphere than we emit with our work. To be more precise, we will offset at least 25% more carbon dioxide than we produce in total with our business (offices, travel, materials, energy for servers & heating, etc.).
How does it work?
Together with Planted, we finance renewable energy projects that, on balance, take 25% more CO2 out of the atmosphere than we as a company put into it. We guarantee this positive climate impact for the entire MYTY Group, to which Strichpunkt Design belongs and with which we want to further develop net+ together. Together with Planted, we are currently drawing up the first CO2 balances and reduction plans, which we will publish in the interests of maximum transparency.
Who or what is Planted?
Planted is a Cologne-based SaaS start-up founded in 2021 with currently 20 employees that specializes in recording, reducing and offsetting CO2 emissions. The Planted software enables us to measure our carbon footprint and its specialists help us to continuously reduce it. We overcompensate for any remaining carbon dioxide emissions through renewable energy projects selected by Planted. In addition, we work with Planted to plant climate-resistant trees on fallow land near our sites.
Where does our money go?
With our support, the DakRTih hydropower plant in the Vietnamese province of Dak Nong generates renewable energy for the local population. With its two cascades, the power plant has a capacity of 144MW and generates 636,900 MWh of clean electricity per year. Compared to fossil power generation, it saves more than 363,000 tons of CO2 per year. The project is certified by TÜV Rheinland and the United Nations.
What does our handprint look like?
We are not only trying to reduce our CO2 footprint, but also to ensure a positive handprint. Together with Planted, we are therefore reforesting mixed forests in our neighborhood. In doing so, we are focusing on climate-stable tree species that ensure greater biodiversity, soil health and a balanced water balance. Jan Borchert, forester at Planted, plans and monitors the planting. Important: the planted trees are not included in our CO2 balance, but are an additional environmental protection measure by Strichpunkt Design.
What distinguishes our approach from greenwashing?
We do not buy anonymous CO2 certificates, but invest in concrete renewable energy projects and tree plantations on our doorstep, whose development we can monitor. Traceable and verifiable. Climate-effective and transparent.
But even more importantly, we monitor our carbon footprint year after year and develop strategies to continuously reduce it. So what we are doing is not simply selling indulgences, but effectively overcompensating for our absolutely unavoidable CO2 emissions.
Why aren't we simply climate positive?
Of course we continue to emit CO2 with everything we do. That's why we are no more climate-positive than companies or products can be "climate-neutral" (a controversial marketing term that is unlikely to be used in future. We used to use it for ourselves too. To be honest, we didn't know any better).
However, we not only compensate for all of this ("climate-neutral balance sheet"), but also overcompensate for our climate impact on an annual basis. That's why we are net climate positive.
